MOSCOW, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The phased implementation of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway project is enabling construction work to be completed more quickly, the project's information center said on Friday.
"The high-speed railway project is being rolled out in phases ... this approach is significantly speeding up the overall construction timeline," the center said.
Earlier, the center said that construction and installation work are underway on a section of the project where Russia's first high-speed train trials are set to take place. This section runs through Moscow Oblast and Tver Oblast, stretching from Zelenograd to Tver, with the test segment totaling 129.5 kilometers in length.
The Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway, a specialized electrified double-track railway line designed for trains operating at speeds ranging from 200 to 400 kilometers per hour, will be Russia's first high-speed railway to enable such speeds, with 14 stations along the route.
The railway is slated for full commissioning in 2028. Travel time from Moscow to St. Petersburg will be two hours and 15 minutes, less than half of the current duration of approximately four hours for the fastest trains on the existing railway, according to the information center. ■
