CARACAS, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan civil protection authorities said Thursday that no injuries or deaths were recorded, only "slight partial impacts" after a series of earthquakes of different intensities that were felt in the country between Wednesday and early Thursday.
The authorities urged all Venezuelans to remain calm and follow official recommendations.
The armed forces, firefighters and all the security agencies are deployed throughout the country to monitor the situation, according to the Venezuelan government.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 jolted northwestern Venezuela at 2221 GMT on Wednesday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said. The epicenter was near the town of Mene Grande in Zulia state, some 600 kilometers west of the capital, Caracas, according to media reports.
The Venezuelan Seismological Research Foundation also reported two earthquakes of 3.9 and 3.8 magnitude, respectively, with the epicenters near the town of Carora, the northwestern Lara state, on Thursday morning. ■
