MOSCOW, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- A freight train transporting fuel and lubricants collided with a heavy-duty truck near a station in western Russia's Smolensk Oblast, injuring two and causing a fire in multiple train cars, local authorities said on Friday.
The incident occurred at 8 a.m. local time (0500 GMT), said the Emergency Ministry of Smolensk Oblast in a statement. It caused the freight train's locomotive and multiple cars to derail. The injured are members of the train crew and have been taken to the hospital.
Citing relevant authorities, TASS said that the truck entered the railway crossing when the road signal showed "no entry." The train driver applied emergency brakes, but the distance was insufficient to avoid the collision.
Firefighters and rescue workers are conducting operations at the scene. ■
