PHNOM PENH, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- China-proposed Global Governance Initiative (GGI) articulates China's vision for a more equitable and balanced international order, enhancing the core tenets of the UN Charter.
The GGI is founded on the conviction that international law, particularly the UN Charter and universally recognized treaties, serves as an impartial framework for resolving disputes peacefully and fostering cooperation.
By upholding these rules, all states, regardless of their size or power, enjoy equal rights and obligations, which is crucial for preventing coercion and safeguarding the sovereignty of smaller or weaker nations.
The GGI is a critical effort to reassert the central role of the United Nations in global governance amid growing unilateralism and political divisions.
It directly confronts global issues by promoting the core principles of the UN Charter and strengthening collective decision-making.
By emphasizing inclusive dialogue and consensus-based rule-making, the GGI works to ensure the United Nations remains the most representative and authoritative platform for international collaboration.
A key part of this is advocating for institutional reforms to give developing nations a stronger voice, which helps revitalize multilateralism to meet current challenges.
In essence, the GGI supports the United Nations' original goal of maintaining global peace and security through cooperation instead of coercion.
It offers an alternative to power politics, envisioning a future where shared rules and collective well-being, rather than unilateral control, guide international relations.
The GGI directly counters the current trend of unilateral actions, the weaponization of economic sanctions, and the inconsistent application of international law, all of which are eroding trust among nations.
It counters global division by promoting inclusive dialogue and equitable problem-solving instead of confrontation and zero-sum politics.
Also, it provides the essential antidote to global division, and its implementation is seen as essential for rebuilding trust, protecting our future, and achieving inclusive development in an unpredictable world.
A key objective is to promote peaceful solutions over one-sided force and aims to give developing countries a stronger voice in global decisions.
The GGI acts as both a practical guide and a moral framework, and it provides a roadmap for addressing global issues like climate change, pandemics and digital governance, while also establishing a normative framework for a more just, stable and inclusive future through enhanced international cooperation.
As a founding and permanent UN Security Council member, China holds an important responsibility to maintain global peace and security. Its advocacy for multilateralism, strengthening UN authority, and opposing unilateral sanctions underscores its commitment to an international legal order that treats all nations equally.
By championing equality among nations, strengthening multilateralism, and actively shaping international norms, China positions itself not only as a staunch defender but also as a driving force for the future evolution of the international rule of law.
China's initiative truly reflects a vision of global governance where law serves as a shield for all nations, not a tool of domination by a few.
All in all, the GGI is essential for creating a fair, inclusive and cooperative global governance system that will enhance the international system's legitimacy and stability and deliver shared benefits, lasting peace, security and common prosperity for all nations. Enditem
